It’s Goal Setting Season aka SZN!

I want to be more intentional and explicit about my goals, the yearly ones at least.

So, I’m sharing a few of my financial and personal goals on the blog and praying that sending my words into the chasm of cyberspace will keep me accountable to them. Check out this post to see my financial goals for 2020.

As an aside, I’d like to point out that you don’t have to wait until the beginning of a new year to set your goals. Start NOW is the best advice you can hear for when you should start doing something you want to. The beginning of the year just happens to be a good time for anyone to start something new and be able to track it with a calendar.

My theme for myself this year is DON’T WAIT (enjoy the process and the now even as I save) so without further ado, here are my personal goals for 2020!

Review at least 12 books on the Fiery Ugandan blog

I love reading and read everyday and from pretty much any fiction genre except horror/thrillers. It’s my favourite way to relax and I’ll read paperbacks, ebooks, articles, poems and yes, romance too. With this goal, I want to encourage myself to read more books of “substance” than I did last year. I want to go back to reading more books that ask questions of the reader and make me think, and not just to entertain myself. I’m not yet sure if I’ll only review personal finance/self-help genre books for this 12 books challenge I’ve set for myself or if I’ll include “critically acclaimed” fiction too.

Do 30 minutes of workouts at least twice a week

A long time ago, I used to love working out. Or at least it came much easier to me. Sadly, I’ve been slacking and it shows. My physical appearance isn’t much different to the outside eye but I can see it and I can feel it. I strongly believe I need more endorphins and also more Beyonce energy to wake up and conquer the world. Exercising regularly could so easily give it to me if only I…got up and did it! Also, I need to use that exercise mat I mentioned in this post.

Go on at least one trip every quarter

I made so many travel goals and wishlists for 2019 and none of them happened. None! Meanwhile I also have an African city bucket list that I have to start working on that I’ve decided to make my decade travel goals list. For 2020, I want to go on at least one trip every 3 months as a way to re-align myself outside of the mundane day-to-day struggle. I’ve already booked one and I’m including domestic trips away from my city of residence because I only did one in 2019 and that just sucks. I will also do my first solo vacation, hopefully. I just no longer want to be that person that waited for more (money, friends, time) to do the things I want to do, I want to try and do what I can now when I can.

See my family in Uganda at least twice in the year

I have family in the country I live in and also some in a few other countries but my immediate family resides in Uganda. I usually see them once a year but I recently decided that, once a year is not enough time to make a lasting meaningful impact with young siblings that you care about. So given the schedule of my work and Uganda’s (boarding) school calendar, we have decided that we will organise at least 2 trips for us to see each other so that I’m not an absentee member of the family that just makes (and sends) money. I want to be there for my family in ways that are more important than the financial ones. This is the goal I’m most worried about because I really don’t know where the money for that second trip is going to come from given how expensive air travel costs for Africans are, but I think it’s necessary so I hope to make it happen by making more this year.
